What CAB has to say?
Dear Sushmita,
In response to your telephonic request, I am letting you know the following for your understanding of
the situation which resulted in the failure of the NABC 2023.
CAB is the owner of NABC (BANGA SAMMELAN). Every year the NABC is awarded
to different associations of North America. The 2023 NABC was awarded to KPC BHOF
to host the NABC 2023.
In short, once the contract is signed with the host Association, like any other contract, CAB does
not have any control on the host Organization's operational or any other decision. As such, CAB could not interfere with the activities of the host Organization.
However, CAB has already started to investigate to find out the reasons for the failure of
NABC2023. Our President has already given a statement about this NABC 2023's failure
and how CAB is going to work so that this type of situation does not repeat anymore.
CAB
is determined to turn any stone to fix any shortfall in part of CAB if there is one at all
Wish you all the best.
Dilip Chakrabarti, Chairman, Board of Trustees, CAB

Update: August 3, 2023

CAB assigned NABC 2023 contract to KPC Bengali Hall of Fame
CORE TEAM working under NABC 2023 presenter KPC Bengali Hall of Fame:
CONVENOR: Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay
Co-CONVENORS: Goutam Datta, Abhik DasGupta, Kallol Chatterjee, Subrata Saha
TREASURER: Pranab Das
1. Why Mr. Parthasarathi Mukhopadhaya was appointed Convenor of NABC 2023 emphatically proposed by Mr. Prabir Roy of CAB knowing that Parthasarathi Mukhopadhaya had no experience handling an event of this magnitude?
2. NABC had an official web presence - nabc.net
Why two public domain emails *Gmail accounts were created by Parthasarathi Mukhopadyaya - [email protected] AND
[email protected] for Zelle money transfers? Why Parthasarathi Mukhopadhaya was the only person who handled Zelle transfers of money by these emails?
3.It has been reported by the public to TriState Bulletin that a public payment money for the NABC 2023 event was received by the Convenor's wife, Anindita Mukhopadhaya in her personal account. Proof attached below:
What really happened?
AN INVESTIGATIVE REPORT ON PUBLIC REQUEST
"Where did the money go?"
Our findings began with NABC 2023 cosmetic/visible information:
1. NABC 2023 presented by a non-profit organization "KPC Bengali Hall of Fame" NJ
Registered Name:
KPC Bengali Hall Of Fame Inc. New Jersey Non-Profit Corporation:
File Number: 450810071
File date of registration::
May 9, 2022.
President: Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay
Agent: Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay
Mailing Address:
12 Ellis Court, Morganville, NJ 07751
2. NABC 2023 Promo on NABC Website had two contacts for The Event Sponsor:
KPC Bengali Hall of Fame:
Email: [email protected] (a public email/Gmail account) NOT Official NABC account.
Phone: 973-714-2554 connecting to Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay.
NABC as an entity for business responsibilities is NOT VISIBLE ANYWHERE.
3. Deeper into the investigation:
Money collected from the Public is Plus USD 1.8 Million.
The public paid by credit/debit Cards and via Zelle. Zelle is directed to another kpcbhof contact email: [email protected]
NABC as an entity for business responsibilities is NOT VISIBLE ANYWHERE
4. We spoke with everybody accessible at NABC Team and CAB. All had one voice:
"Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay handled everything in a 'Hush, Hush' like one man controlling the show. Chairman of the CAB Board of Trustees, Dilip Chakrabarty said "We gave the NABC contract to KPC Bengali Hall Of Fame and after that, we had no control over any NABC activities. What happened is wrong and CAB is investigating this."
There was no disclosure of any incoming and outgoing expenses. The treasurer of the NABC 2023 team, Pranab Das, said, "Looks like he opened multiple accounts where the money generated from the public was ciphered." But then, we could not trace that. Another member of the NABC literary team, Sudipta Chattopadhyay said, "Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay was so overwhelmed with his own programs that he had no time to delegate tasks to team members". And, indeed, we verified this and found that he had all his shows canceling invited and contracted artists which created a huge public uproar. Many attendees complained that there was nothing like a planned program schedule, the public was asked to go online to know frequently changing programs. Steller singer Rghab Chatterjee complained, "My program was scheduled for Saturday. I was then asked to perform on Sunday evening. At 9:00 am on Sunday I got a call in my hotel, that my show is in 3 hours at 12 noon." There was a complete chaos.
Co-convenor Goutam Datta said, "From the core team, we asked him several times for an Audit Report but we do not have one even today".
5. On a recorded line, we contacted Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay. We asked, please tell us what happened. His voice: "I ran short of money and got into this mess." We asked: "What happened to the 1.8 plus/minus million dollars raised?" His response: "I spend the money on organizing the shows and other expenses."
We asked, "You spend an amount close to 1.8 million? Can you please share with the public an expense report? Maybe a very dirty, scribbled expense list of where the money was spent by you? None of your team members have any clue about how you spent the money." Few minutes of silence and then he said, he was totally shaken up when the Auditorium manager hiked up the cost from an initially priced USD 382,000 raised to USD 900,000 JUST 10 DAYS BEFORE THE SHOW. Then, he had to borrow money from KPC and friends and, he had to cancel FRIDAY SHOW. Saturday and Sunday shows happened but canceling some committed, contracted shows. While Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty was singing, a lady from the audience stood up screaming "Where is my show that we prepared with so many months of rehearsals and we paid our registration fee?" Ajoy Chakrabarty paused, the security walked in and dragged the lady out,"
Humanly, we understand the desire to have his shows in an event as large as NABC and in Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, That is human. But then, to have his own shows canceling famous contracted performer Anindo Chattopadhaya, and asking singers like Ajoy Chakrabarty to sing for just half an hour and Jayati Chakraborty is curtailed to just 3 songs - this is definitely not acceptable and created a public outrage.
The purpose of our investigation is to know what happened to the money. Public money. And, we moved on...
6. We asked Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay, Can you please produce an Audit Report of all expenses - USD 1.8 Million PLUS the borrowed money which amounts to close to USD 3 Million? After a few moments of silence, HE DID NOT ANSWER. We discontinued the call.
REPORT CONTINUES
Next thing we knew we had to go to the venue of NABC - Atlantic City to gather some information from reliable sources.
7. We contacted applicable State entities at the place of the event - Atlantic City:
Congressman at Atlantic City. The Atlantic City Mayor's Office and
The Spokes Person at The Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall. Here is the email to Andrew Forstadt of Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall:

Hi Andrew,
It was nice talking to you yesterday.
Here is what we need to know following the public complaints about the NABC, 2023 shows held recently at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on June 30, July 1, and July 2:
1. Is it true that the NABC organizers were given a price of $382,000 and later the price escalated to $900,000?
2. If yes, when was this change of price information given to the organizer
- how many days in advance before the show?
3. If no, what is the standard price of the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall for a day?
Thanks much for your support, Andrew.
The Bengali, Indian community is a proud supporter of the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
Regards,
Sushmita Dutta,

8. Andrew Forstadt of Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall informed Parthasarathi well in advance about the hall's packaged price - lights, sounds, security, etc. But Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay did not share that information with anyone. Why? Why? We asked many, and one CAB member said, Parthasarathi confessed to him, "Dada, it has been my life's ambition to perform in an auditorium like the Jim Whelan. We will manage the money."
9. With these findings, we spoke with The New Jersey Attorney General's Office.
The Responses we got for the next steps:
It is definitely a Criminal Case involving Public Money. Steps:
(A) File a Police Report at the Atlantic Police Dept.
(B) File a Complaint at the Public Prosecutors Office at Atlantic City with the Police Report
(C) An FBI Investigation is possible with a request for an Audit of USD 3 MILLION - public money.
10. Some Community members have asked for a "Class Action Suit" against Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay, the convenor, and KPC Bengali Hall Of Fame as the presenter of NABC 2023
We need more public views to decide on point 8C OR point 10 OR both.
Class Action Suit? Yes, we can claim the money as a group - The Bengalis of North America, An FBI report? Yes, we can request an Audit of the money earned under the banner of the
KPC Bengali Hall of Fame.
We want the public to decide.
With tons of thanks for all the supporting hands from the community, especially those who worked with me late, late at night.
